Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE):

 

Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) is a national examination conducted by jointly Indian Institute of Science(IISc) Bangalore and seven Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) Bombay Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education(MoE), Government of India. 

Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) is a national level examination on the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Arts, Commerce, and Science.

 

Eligibility:

Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (3 years after 10+2/ 10+2+3(ongoing)/ 10+2+4(ongoing)/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs ( Also prefinal year of B.tech).

Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.

Candidates in the second or higher year of Four-year integrated master's degree programs (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering / Technology.

Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year integrated master's degree programs or Dual Degree programs in Engineering / Technology.

Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UGC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(India), AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I), AMIETE By IETE(India)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech.

Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

 

Mode of Exam: Online

 

Exam conducted: Once in a year expected in February.

 

Age: There is no age limit criterion defined by the exam conducting authority to appear in GATE. 

 

Syllabus

Verbal Ability: English grammar, sentence completion, verbal analogies, word groups, instructions, critical reasoning and verbal deduction.

Numerical Ability: Numerical computation, numerical estimation, numerical reasoning and data interpretation.

Engineering Mathematics (not for all Papers)

Subject Paper: Questions on selected subject paper.

Exam Details:

General Aptitude (Verbal and Numerical ability): 10 MCQ questions where 5 One-mark questions and 5 Two-mark questions.

Subject Paper: 55 questions based on MCQ and Numeric where 25 One-mark questions and 30 Two-mark questions.

Total Time: 3 hrs.

2. Students who are cleared GATE can apply for M.tech /ME different institute as per rank.

3. Students who are cleared GATE can apply for Ph.D. or integrated Ph.D. programs at various Universities or institutes in India.

4. Students who are qualified GATE exam can get direct interview calls to PSU/BARC jobs in India as per rank.

5. Gate qualified students also apply to some foreign Universities with scholarship as per rank such as:

   a. Aachen University (Germany) - best known for mechanical and automobile engineering

   b. Technical University of Munich (Germany)

   c. National University of Singapore

   d. Nanyang Technical University (Singapore) 

6. Gate-qualified students also avail fellowship program in IIMs as per GATE rank.

7. Gate qualified students get preference for recruitment in top MNCs.
