UGC NTA NET Examination:

 

National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals ‘only for Assistant Professor’ or ‘for Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor both’ in Indian Universities and Colleges.

Till recently, the CBSE conducted the UGC-NET in 84 subjects at 91 selected cities spread across the country.

From Dec 2018 onwards, the UGC-NET will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The award of ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Assistant Professor both’ or ‘Eligibility for Assistant Professor only’ depends on the performance of the candidate in both the papers of UGC-NET in aggregate. 

However, the candidates qualifying for ‘Assistant Professor only’ are not to be considered for award of JRF. Additionally, candidates who qualify the Test for eligibility for Assistant Professor are governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Assistant Professor of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, as the case may be.

 

Eligibility

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC (on the website: https://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/consolidated%20list%20of%20All%20universities.pdf) in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test.

For other OBC/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in the same examination.

A candidate who are in last year of Master Degree appeared for their qualifying examination and whose result is still waited also apply for this examSuch candidates must complete their Masters's degree or equivalent examination within two years from the date of NET result with the required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.

 

The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master s level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.

 

Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. The candidates, whose post-graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects, may appear in a related subject.

 

Exam Mode: Online

 

Exam Conducted: Twice in a year expected June and December.

3. If you clear JRF, you can apply for Ph.D. in any Govt. Universities with scholarships.

4. If you clear UGC NET only 'for assistant professor' we can also apply for Ph.D. in any Govt. Universities/Institutes but without a scholarship. 

 

Age: 

Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.

JRF: The candidate should not be more than 30 years as of 01/06/2020.

Others OBC/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender has relaxation of up to 5 years.

Candidates who have research experience get a relaxation limited to the period they have spent on the research, but this relaxation is subject to a maximum of 5 years, only if you provide a certificate from the appropriate authority

 

Exam Details:

1. Paper-I (General paper): 50 MCQ each carry 2 marks

2. Paper II (Subjective paper): 100 MCQ each carry 2 marks

Time: There is no separate time for paper I and II. Total time 3 hours (180 minutes)
