Handheld Operating System:

 

Extremely portable light weight, self-contained information management, and communication devices. It has less memory and little storage. Handheld operating system is designed to run on machines that have lower speed processors, less memory, and fewer resources. 

 

Handheld systems include Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), such as Cellular or Palm-Pilots Telephones with connectivity to a network such as the Internet. 

 

Example of handheld operating system is Symbian OS, Palm OS, Linux OS, Pocket PC, Windows and Android.

 

Server Operating System: 

 

It is a special type of operating system design for a server computer, which are large personal computers, workstations, or even mainframes. This operating system is designed with special features and computational capabilities within a client-server architecture. They serve several users simultaneously over a network and allow the users to share hardware and software resources. Server operating systems also played typical roles as the mail server, web server, and application server, etc. 

 

Example of server operating system is Mac OS X server, Windows server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux etc.
