Now symbols are used for representation

For Husband Wife relation we will use an arrow with both sides (⟷).

For brother sister relationships we will use an arrow with one side (→).

Now we will represent few relationships in diagram.

From this diagram, we can conclude that A is the husband of B or B is the wife of A.

From this diagram, we can conclude that A is the brother of B or B is the sister of A.

From this diagram, we can conclude that,

C is the maternal uncle of D.

A is the brother-in-law of C.

D is the son of A and B.

is the husband of B.

N.B

# We will not determine the gender by anyone’s name.

# If a relationship of the paternal and maternal side is not mentioned then by default we will consider paternal type.

Now by Generation tree, we will understand the concept.

Mainly 3-types of questions are asked in various competitive exams.

(I) Indicating type

(II) Puzzle type

(III) Coded type

(I) Indicating type:

Example 1:

Pointing to a girl Ramesh who is a male said “She is the only daughter of only brother-in-law of my father”. How is Ramesh related to the girl’s father?

a) Cousin

b) Uncle

c) Nephew

d) Niece

e) None of these

Solution:

Now when we put the relation in the diagram we get,

So the girl’s father is uncle of Ramesh. So, Ramesh is the nephew of the girl’s father.

Hence option (c) is correct.
