Single and Multi-user:

In single user operating system, only one user can access the system at a time i.e. there is no way to distinguish users. Generally, we are using two types of single user operating system, single user-single tasking, and single user-multi tasking.

In single user-single tasking operating system, only one user is able to perform one task at a time. Palm OS is a single user-single tasking OS.

Whereas in single user-multi tasking, only the user can access the system but it can run multiple programs simultaneously. Windows and Apple Mac OS is an example of single user-multi tasking OS.
